Railway Station Refurbishment
Extensive restoration works were carried out to platforms, structural steelwork, roof tiling, patent glazing, leadwork, windows and the sandstone walls of the 1903 station. The work was funded by Historic Scotland, Inverclyde District Council, The Railway Heritage Trust, Scotrail, and Strathclyde PTE. The project won a Civic Trust Commendation in 1995, an International Brunel Award in 1994 ‘for transformed or renovated medium-sized stations’, and The Ian Alan Railway Heritage Award 1994 ‘for the most meritorious entry in the public and commercial sector’.
