New Headquarters Balloch

Competition entry.

Ellipse

The Balloch competition for a new headquarters building for The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park Authority enabled us to explore again the idea of an embedded crystal.

The site was most appropriate, in that it sat on the boundary between north and south. Balloch or Bealach means pass or place between.

The elevations imagine a glass façade around this prismatic core. Additionally, an elliptical veil shrouds the plan. The ellipse is sympathetic to the road and roundabout in form and scale. Its filigree expression, in perforated copper, in collaboration with the trees offer screening to the building from sun, noise, pollution and views.
